Book Donation Guidelines
The Footpath Library accepts high-quality books in the following genres:
- Women’s, men’s and children’s fiction
- Non-fiction, including dictionaries, simple cookbooks, parenting, and self help
- National Geographic, Australian Geographic, motorcycle and car magazines.
Please note, out of respect for our customers we do not accept:
- True crime
- Travel/wine/restaurant guides
- Get-rich-quick/investment/ financial guides
- Coffee table books
- Home decorating, gardening, sewing, craft, fashion
- Sport (unless biographies)
- Any books with suicide, depression, or drug themes
- Computer manuals
- Text books of any description
- Magazines, except National Geographic, Australian Geographic, motorbike and car
- Encyclopaedias
- Street directories
- Religious material
- Used crossword/puzzle books.
While we really appreciate donations, please note that books must be in excellent condition. We consider the books gifts for our customers and are aiming for the highest quality possible. Think of the kind of book you’d buy for your best friend or your mother. That is, brand new from a bookshop and so delicious you can barely wait to crack the spine; something someone would be excited to receive and unwrap as a present.
Unsuitable books have to be recycled, which costs us money, so please help us by ensuring their suitability before they are delivered.
To find out if books are needed in your area please contact our relevant Book Resource Manager:

Please note: Thanks to some donors’ incredible generosity, the Brisbane chapter is currently fully stocked and not currently able to accept any further book donations (our storage shed is stacked sky high and we’re working hard to distribute books to our customers!). We will update this section when Brisbane is able to accept book donations again, but we can safely say that we’ll be busily lifting, packing, and delivering books (and building up our muscles) for the next few months. Until then, please familiarise yourself with the book donation guidelines, FAQs, and the rest of our new website, and then check back in for updates in mid-2012.
